He is currently the Associate Department Head and Medical Director for Emergency Medicine at VGH and UBCH. In addition, Dr. Lee also serves as the Lead Physician for Disaster Management at VGH, and has interests in disaster preparedness, medical technology, and innovation. | |

VGH ED Launches ED LIVE!
At Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), we are always seeking new opportunities to lead innovation for high-quality patient care.
That’s why we are so excited to announce that on March 9, Vancouver General Hospital’s (VGH) Emergency Department (ED) was named as a MEDTEQ+ Beachhead™ Centre of Excellence and living lab site.
The MEDTEQ+ Beachhead™program connects its network of Canadian and international centres of excellence and industry partners to test and develop new health-care innovations, such as technologies, ideas or work flows, in clinical settings and in real time.
As innovations are proven successful on site, they are seamlessly brought into practice, leading to faster improvements in patient care.
Beachhead (definition): An initial accomplishment that opens the way for further developments.

VGH ED hosts 1st conference on technology in emergency medicine!
Announcing the inaugural Technologies in Emergency Care – TEC Vancouver Conference 2019 bringing together clinicians, health professionals and health leaders to explore clinical gaps and how technologies can be used to solve real life challenges in primary and emergency health services in BC and beyond.
This conference will:
- Share knowledge on existing & emerging innovative health technologies to improve patient care, health provider work & education relevant to the Emergency Department and beyond
- Identify & address real life clinical problems & challenges in order to find novel solutions
- Clarify & share pathways for health technology innovations, from design to implementation and commercialization, with clinicians, policy makers, industry leaders and health administrators
VGH researcher Dr. Jeff Brubacher’s research on THC in CBC News
Dr. Brubacher’s research on use of THC and driving suggests that low levels of THC may not be associated with an increasing incidence in collisions or injury. This has significant legal implications on BC given current legislation. His research has been reported on CBC and the UBC website.
Dr. Jill McEwen wins prestigious CAEP President’s Award!
Congratulations to our own Dr. Jill McEwen for being awarded the CAEP President’s Award. This is CAEP’s most prestigious award, and receiving this is a recognition of the incredible and numerous contributions Dr. McEwen has made to CAEP and Emergency Medicine more generally, both nationally and internationally, over many years of service. Workplace Health Innovation
The VGH Emergency Department Health Workplace Initiative took top spot for their team efforts to combat violence in the emergency department. As you would expect in any busy ED, staff often face difficult situations and aggressive or violent patients. A multi-disciplinary team was formed two years ago to improve workplace health and safety for staff and patients.
